SPORT ELIGIBILITY
St. Mary Athletic Association provides an extension of the Christian educational experience. Any student who is enrolled at St. Mary Parish School or a child whose family is a registered member of St. Mary Parish and is enrolled and actively participates in St. Mary Christian Formation Program can participate in this program. This program is part of the Archdiocese sports programs and follows all regulations set forth by the Archdiocese.
Important Information
- What are the fees?
- $125 sport plus $25 per player in 5th-8th grade playing volleyball and $150 sport plus $25 per player for basketball.
- Can I earn back a portion of the fees?
- Absolutely, families can earn money back by working shifts in the gym for concessions and admissions. Each shift is paid $25 and there is no limit to the number of shifts you can work during the year. Also, the shifts are open to all sports families, not just those that play sports which utilize the gym.
- For 2024 we are giving this approach one more try. If we do not end up with enough volunteers to fill the shifts, as has been the case the past few years, we will begin mandatory team volunteer days in 2024. It is less about the money earned and the help that is needed to operate the program at the level we expect.
- Is there a family maximum?
- Yes, the family maximum is $600. This was changed a few years ago with the elimination of the volunteer fee.
- Why does 5th-8th grade basketball/volleyball players pay a court fee?
- Due to the success of our sports programs, we do not have enough space and time slots at our own gym and thus need to rent space for practice from other schools. The court fee is used to help offset some of the cost of this additional gym rental which averages over $7,500/year.
- Are there discount available?
- Yes, consistent with prior years ,there is a multi-sport discount of $75. This discount applies to individual students (not cumulative within a family). The code for this discount is GET75OFF3
- Athletic board members are eligible for a specific discount. Please contact Athletic Director for your code.
- Head coaches are also eligible for a $50 discount per sport they coach. These will be paid in the form of a reimbursement check once all coaches have been determined. Please contact your respective sport coordinator for more details on the reimbursement submission process. If you have other needs requiring reduced or deferred payment options please contact the athletic director directly @ athleticdirector@stmaryhc.org
- What if my child decides not to play after I sign them up?
- Refund cutoff dates will be posted to the TeamSideline website. Without these guidelines we create issues where the number of players / teams changed since we paid the league for a certain number of teams thus paying for no reason or, more of an issue, having too large of small of teams based on original signups which create unwanted challenges for the coaches and players.
- What are valid reasons for a refund of fees?
- For the most part, injury prior to the season or leaving the school are the only two reasons a sports fee will be refunded. If you signed your child up and they decided not to play, that is not a valid reason. By signing up your student through this system you are acknowledging that you read this and agreed to the rules.
If you received the multi-sport discount and then one of the sports is dropped for the reasons outlined above, you will receive a pro-rata refund.
- What are the sports signup cutoff dates?
- These dates will be posted to TeamSideline for each respective season (fall, winter and spring sports). The dates may vary by year depending on different factors. Email reminders will be provided from TeamSideline but do not wait for them. Athletics is not responsible if you “did not know when the cutoff date was.”
- What if I miss the cutoff date?
- There is no guarantee you will be able to enroll your child in the respective sport if you miss cutoff. Again, for reasons cited in #6 above, we cannot commit to a number of teams and then have people sign up after the fact and we end up with too many kids on one team. The individual sports coordinator will be responsible for determining if there is space to add your child. The athletic director defers to the coordinators decision. If allowed, there will be a $25 late fee charged.
We have had to turn people away in the past. It is not fun but it is also not fair to the athletes who signed up on time.
