Pickleball Clinic (Sept 7) - Fall 2024

Want to learn how to play the fastest growing sport in the country? Join us on Saturday, September 7th from 9am-10:15am for a fun, instructional clinic led by Deonna Shake, Robert Green, and Sue Rawszeski! This clinic will include an overview of the rules, basic skills, and a few strategies for singles and doubles play. 

Following the clinic, there will be speed games from 11am-1pm. Players will rotate partners and play against different opponents throughout the time. 

Saturday, September 7th

Clinic:  9:00-10:15am |  Ages 12-18 = FREE  |  Ages 19+ = $10

Speed Play:  11:00am-1:00pm | $5 if not attending clinic

AYSA VolleyKids League (Aug. 26-Oct. 14) - Fall 2024

Monday Evenings--Aug.26th-Oct.14th (1 hr. segments from 5:30pm-8:30pm)

Boys and Girls--Age Groups 6-8, 9-10,11-12

This is a progressive, practice/play league. The first part of every evening will allow time for a team practice followed by 2 timed games. This progressive approach allows for young players to build their fundamental skills of passing, setting, attacking, serving, and defense, while also learning strategies of the game through league play. Players will register as individuals and will be placed on teams by AYSA staff. Each players will be given a team shirt.

Schedule information will be emailed to participants two weeks before league play begins. Volunteer coaches are needed for this league. Please contact Sabrina at sbingham@abileneysa.org if you are interested in coaching your child's team. 

Adult Futsal League (Sept. 17 - Oct. 29) - Fall I 2024

5v5 Futsal League (High School and older)

Tuesdays: September 17th - October 29th

RULES: AYSA Adult Futsal Rules

7 weeks long (6 weeks of league play, last week will be a single elimination tournament). Teams will be seeded in the bracket based off their league record and point differentials. *Depending on the number of teams, playoffs may take two days to complete.

Men's and CoEd Divisions--players can play on 1 Men's and 1 CoEd team but cannot play on 2 teams in the same division. 

Matches will start as early as 6pm and finish no later than 10pm. Schedules will be posted a few days prior to the start of the season. 

Roster limit is 10 players. *Any changes to roster must be approved by AYSA Staff, email Jacie (jlopez@abileneysa.org) to submit request. 

Cost: $50 per player 

Free Agent option available for those who do not have a team, contact AYSA / Jacie Lopez if you want to be a free agent.

ELEVATE Basketball Camp (October 2-3rd) - Fall 2024

ELEVATE: Middle School Basketball Camp (Grades 6-8)

Dates: October 2-3 (Limited to the first 40 registered)

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Cost:  $70

Check-in: Wednesday, October 2 at 5:15pm

ELEVATE Overview:

This middle school 2-day camp is designed to prepare each athlete to be confident and ready for their school season. Our emphasis will be on repetition and technique. All basic skills of basketball will be attended to, with the most focus being placed on the shooting and finishing aspect of the game.

Adult Volleyball League (Oct. 6th-Nov. 17th) - Fall 2024

Sundays--October 6th-November 17th

Coed A (Competitive) & Coed B (Rec) Divisions--Guaranteed 2 matches per night.

Free Agent option available for those that do not have a team. ($35 per person.)

Matches will start as early as 5:30pm and finish around 8pm. Schedules will be posted a few days prior to the start of the season. 

Cost: $200 per team.

Full rosters must be submitted before the league begins. Each player will have to check in each week at our table in the lobby and have a form of ID with them.

Basketball Firm Foundations (Oct 8-24) - Fall 2024

Who: K-3rd grade and 4th-6th grade 

When: October 8th - 24th

Tuesday and Thursday

This basketball academy is to set your child up to be a successful player. 

This is a fast paced skills academy that meets 2x a week on TUESDAY and THURSDAY from 5:30-6:30pm.

We will help teach your child the fundamentals of basketball as well as how to progress those basic skills into game like situations. 

Victory Playbook Coaching Clinic (Oct 19) - Fall I 2024

Join us on October 19th from 8:30-11:45am for a basketball coaching clinic with guests speakers: 

• Justin Reese - Abilene HS Head Boys Basketball Coach | 8:30-9:20am - Advantage Based Basketball
• Jason Pillion - Amarillo HS Head Boys Basketball Coach | 9:30-10:20am - Motion Offense
• Sharman White - Pace Academy and USA Basketball 17U National Boys Coach | 10:30-11:25am - Gold Medal Standards
• Coach White will also lead a Words of Wisdom session for athletes 11:30-11:45am 

This clinic is open to all youth, high school, and college athletes and coaches. 

COST:  Free for coaches if team is competing in AYSA's HS Showcase this weekend (Oct 19-20).  $20 for coaches not competing. **Athletes do not need to register, just show up by 11:20am!

AYSA High School Basketball Showcase (Oct 19th-20th) - Fall 2024

Girls and Boys Divisions: JV and Varsity 

Come play competitive basketball in our state of the art facility. The Dodge Jones Youth Sports Center has 4 high school regulation basketball courts, state-of-the-art amenities, technology and will be a great venue to watch basketball games in a tournament, multi-court setting. Get your team together and come check this amazing place out in person!

Parent's Night Out (October 25th) - Fall 2024

Parent's Night Out 

If you need a date night or time to yourself, then be sure to join us for Parent's Night Out! Playing games, watching a movie, and eating pizza are just a few of the fun activities kids get to experience during this event. 

Date: Friday, October 25th

Time: 6:00-10:00PM

Cost: $25 per child if registered by October 23rd. 

 $30 per child if registered after October 23rd. 

Age Group: Children ages 5-12 

Drop-Off: 5:30-6:00PM

Pick-Up: 9:00-10:00PM, however parents may pick up their child(ren) at any time throughout the event. 

What to Bring:

• Comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes 
• Water bottle with child's name (preferred) 
• Meal arrangement (if not eating pizza) 
• Pillow and blanket to watch movie (optional)

Hot Shots League 2024 (Oct 28-Dec 9) - Fall 2024

Monday Evenings-Oct. 28th -Dec. 9th  Boys/Girls-Age Groups 5-6, 7-8, 9-10,11-12 Thursday is a possible playing night.

This is a progressive, practice/play league. The first 20 minutes of each Monday will allow time for a team practice followed by games. This progressive approach allows for young players to build their fundamental skills of passing, shooting, rebounding and defense, while also learning strategies of the game through league play. Players will register as individuals and will be placed on teams by AYSA staff.

The first night of league, Monday October 28th, will be just a practice for the team!!

Time slots will be sent out closer to the season start time.

Volleyball Holiday Camp (Nov. 25-26) - Winter 2024

VOLLEYBALL ALL-SKILLS CAMP

November 25-26

Age Groups:

3rd-6th Grade, 9am-10:30am

7th-9th Grade, 9am-10:30am

Our volleyball holiday camp is intended to cover every skill of the game of volleyball for your young athlete. This camp is for beginners as well as for those that have been playing for several years. Here is what will be included:

Serving: Footwork, armswing mechanics, building confidence, working on core power, jump serving for advanced players.

Hitting: Introduction to approaches and transitions, armswing mechanics, jumping for height and power.

Passing/Defense: Proper technique and footwork, controlling where the pass goes, and moving quickly to the ball. 

Setting: Introduction to setting techniques and proper hand contact on the ball. 

Games: We will be playing small mini-games each day to utilized the skills that have been presented. This can be serving games, short-court games, wave-through and rotation games. 

Basketball Holiday Camp (Nov 25-26th) - Fall 2024

BASKETBALL HOLIDAY BREAK CAMP

Time:  12-1:30pm (Grades will be separated) 

Our Basketball Holiday Camp is intended to cover every skill of the game of basketball for your young athlete. This camp is for beginners as well as for those that have been playing for several years. Here is what will be included:

Dribbling and Finishing:

• stationary ball handling 
• ball handling in motion with a defender 
• dribbling sequences
• finishing against any defender in the paint 
• how to finish through contact
• 1 on 1 game play
• FUN games for the skills covered!

Shooting:

• Increase your shooting accuracy and range
• Improve the speed of your release
• Create separation so you can always get your shot off 
• Train in a way that helps you get better faster 
• Build and protect your confidence 
• Master the shots all great scorers need in their toolbox

Passing/Defense:

• Practice different passes and learn when to use each one
• Learn techniques to help stay in front of offensive players as they drive to the basket
• 1 on 1 game play

Games: We will be playing small mini-games each day to utilized the skills that have been presented. This can be dribbling and/or shooting games. 

Advanced Hitting/Serving HS Camp (Nov. 25-26) - Winter 2024

November 25-26,   11-12:30 PM

9th-12th Grade (Limited to the first 10 athletes to register)

$60

If your athlete is an advanced player who is looking for extra skill specific training in the area of hitting and serving then this is the camp for them! Emphasis will be placed on the following skill specific elements:

Hitting:

• Proper approach footwork mechanics that will lead to consistency and momentum building.
• Focus on proper power jumping techniques to get players to their most efficient vertical heights. 
• Transitioning from passer to attacker in a fluid motion while building momentum. 
• Learning how to hit with power by properly engaging the core. 
• Higher level hitting techniques and plays: running quicks, slides, shoots, tipping and roll shot training. 

Serving:

• Serving to score mentality.
• Building up more power and velocity in the serve.  
• Placement of the serve into specific zones on the court. 
• Higher Level Serving: Working on consistency with jump serves as well as short ball serving. 

For all AYSA camps, emphasis will be placed on repetition, technique, maximum efficient mobility, and proper mechanics.

Jingle Jam 2024 (December 7th) - Winter 2024

The Jingle Jam is our second AYSA fundraiser of the year! This all-day event will consist of 3v3 basketball tournaments, 4v4 volleyball tournaments, 5v5 futsal tournament, and Christmas GALORE!! The event schedule is listed below.

• The fundraiser is hosted at the Dodge Jones Youth Sports Center, 1042 Loop 322, Abilene, TX 79602
• 9am-1pm: Adult 4v4 Volleyball (High School and older), Middle School 4v4 Volleyball (6th-8th grade), Family 4v4 Volleyball (details below), and 3v3 Youth Basketball (Boys & Girls: 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, 7th-8th grade divisions).
• 1:30pm-4pm: Adult 3v3 Men's and Coed Basketball (High School and older) and Adult 5v5 Futsal (High School and older).
• $60 per team
• AND the best news of all...SANTA WILL BE HERE!!!

Family 4v4 Volleyball Requirements: 

• Must have at least one adult (18+) on the court at all times.
• Must have two players that are middle school aged (6th-8th Grade). 
• Maximum of two adults (High School and older) on the court.
