Pineywoods Open Chess Tournament- Rita Frenzel - Spring II 2025

Join us for the Pineywoods Open Chess Tournament, hosted by USCF-certified instructor Rita Frenzel! This exciting unrated event welcomes players of all skill levels. No USCF membership is required, and everyone plays all five rounds—no eliminations!

Tournament Details:

• Time Control: Game 15/no delay (15 minutes per player per round)
• Chess sets provided; clocks optional (bring your own if preferred).
• Trophies awarded to the top 3 finishers in each section.
• Swiss System Pairing – Everyone plays all 5 rounds!

Sections:

• PK – 2nd grade (Unrated – 250)
• PK – 5th grade (Unrated – 500)
• PK – 12th grade (Unrated – 1000)
• Open – Anyone, any age, any rating

Most players won't have a rating. Sections may be adjusted or combined based on entries.

Season & Payments
- Season Duration: March 3rd-May 30th
-Cost: $120/month

All payments must be made by the 15th of each month to continue participation in the cheer program.
*If the 15th falls on a weekend, payments will be due on the closest business day.*

Uniforms *Sold Separately*
- Cost: $250 (non-refundable deposit of $125 due February 15th)
- Full payment by March 25th

- Additional items: white cheer shoes, socks, and cheer makeup

3-5 Yr Cheer Class- April- Amy Nicolas - Spring II 2025

3-5 Year Old Intro to Cheer

This fun and energetic class introduces 3-5 year olds to cheerleading basics, including simple cheers, motions, jumps, and beginner tumbling. Through games, music, and playful activities, kids build coordination, confidence, and teamwork in a supportive environment. No experience needed—just come ready to move and cheer!

Level 1 – For new students
Thursdays | 5-5:45 PM

Level 2 – For returning students (Coach approval required)

Chess- April- Rita Frenzel - Spring II 2025

Chess is a Passion of Instructors Rita and Steve Frenzel. The class is for beginner through tournament level students while providing a fun and exciting atmosphere. Our year-round curriculum includes lessons for brand new beginners as well as more advanced players. All students are taught on their level. The class is structured with a combination of lessons and practice time. 
The game of Chess is designed to be both entertaining and educational. Students learn to focus, evaluate options, and determine the best sequence for moves. Plus, several colleges and universities offer scholarships for chess players.

Combo- April- Ami Parbs - Spring II 2025

Want the best of both gymnastics and dance? 

We are excited to have a Tall Timbers trained coach teach our combo class. 

Class will consist of 30 minutes of basic gymnastics instruction and 30 minutes of basics of dance. 

All classes are held at the Rec Center at 516 Montrose.

Lufkin Parks & Recreation is proud to be partnering with Coats Self Defense Systems to be offering self defense classes here at the rec center.

Ages 14 -17 | $40 monthly

Zumba Fitness

Get ready to dance your way to fitness in our Zumba class! This high-energy workout combines fun dance moves with cardio exercises. Expect a lively atmosphere, great music, and a whole lot of fun!

Students must be 16 or older to attend. Come dressed in athletic clothing and tennis shoes. Don’t forget to bring water and a sweat towel—you're going to need it!

Teams will be divided into Upper and Lower divisions in Playoffs

Lufkin Little League Youth Baseball - Spring 2025

Registration is NOW OPEN!

Our 2025 Little League Baseball Season registration has begun. Season begins March 22nd. Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays.  

League Ages: 5-14 as of August 31, 2025

Scholarships available upon request.
