9-11 Year Old Coach Pitch - Summer 2024- Renton Recreation

9-11 Year Old Coach Pitch Rules

  • Games are 6 innings.  No new inning may begin after 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • There will be no game scores or league standings.
  • Players must play a minimum of two different positions in the field on defense (infield and outfield)
  • An inning consists of once through the lineup or 3 outs, whichever comes first.
  • Players are encouraged to wear cup protectors; all catchers must wear a cup.
  • There shall be no head first slides.  Players should avoid contact at all times.
  • A ball which leaves the field of play on an overthrow is dead.  The runner is allowed one base beyond the base he/she is approaching when the ball leaves the field of play.
  • The ball is considered dead and the play is over when the ball is in the possession of the pitcher in the pitching area. Coaches, please try to keep the game under control while advancing your base runners.
  • If a batter throws the bat, the ball is dead and runners may not advance.  The batter will be warned, and given the opportunity to bat again.  If the player throws the bat a second time, he/she is out. Runners may not advance.  Please enforce this rule for safety reasons.
  • A batted ball that hits the coach/pitcher is a dead ball and player is awarded a single.
  • The coach/pitcher will not make a play on any ball in play.
  • There will be no leading off or stealing.   
  • Batting order consists of all players present at the game.  Late arriving players will be added to the bottom of the lineup.
  • No bunting is allowed.
  • Players can strikeout. Players are allowed 7 pitches to put the ball into play.

 

Opportunities for parent to help:

  • If unable to field a catcher, each team must field an adult catcher.  Adult catcher will field pitched ball and throw them back to the adult pitcher.
  • The base coaches of the batting team will call the outs from the base paths.  If a player is called out, he/she must leave the field of play.
