PALO ALTO MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS

Everything you need for registration, team schedules and league information.

The Middle School Athletics (MSA) program is open to all 6th-8th grade students attending Fletcher, Greene, or JLS Middle School in Palo Alto. Participants can register for the school they attend and their corresponding grade level. Sports listed as 6th-8th grade means players will practice together, but meets/matches will be divided into grade or skill level. Our goal is to provide an opportunity to everyone who wants to play, however spaces are limited by coach availability, team roster maximums and league/facility capacities. We do not "cut" players from rosters, however each sport will have an initial maximum amount of registrations we can accommodate on registration day. For those who do not receive a place, a waitlist will be created and those participants will be contacted if or when a space becomes available.

Sports are offered throughout the school year, and take place over three seasons: Fall (August-October), Winter (November-March), and Spring (April-May).

Fall Sports: Girls Volleyball, Co-Ed Flag Football, and Cross Country

Winter Sports: 7th and 8th Basketball (Nov-Jan), 6th Grade Pickleball (Nov-Jan), 7th and 8th Pickleball (Feb-Mar), and 6th Basketball (Jan-Mar)

Spring Sports: Boys Volleyball, Tennis, Track and Field, Wrestling, and Ultimate Frisbee

Palo Alto schools participate in the Art David Athletic League (ADAL) consisting of 14 Peninsula schools, ranging from Half Moon Bay to Palo Alto. To see more about the potential locations of away matches, games, and meets, please see the website here: Art David Athletic League

Program Dates and Times

Dates, days of the week, and times listed for each program are subject to change. Sports will not change seasons. Generally practices and games will occur from after school - 7:00pm. When registering on our site, you will see a broad time range for the program. Please note that the program will not take place every day for 4 hours. Your child's schedule for each sport will depend on coach availability, facility availability, and game/meet schedules. Generally there are 1-2 games per week, and 1-2 practices per week, lasting between 1-1.5 hours each event.

Registration Information

Due to the popularity of the MSA program, each school is assigned a different registration day for each season. Space is limited in each program and will fill up fast. If your child does not receive a registered roster space upon the initial registration, a waitlist is created. If a space becomes available, we will contact the waitlist in the order they were added. Additional spaces are not guaranteed, but we will increase our maximum number if we have the support to do so. Registration (online or in person) starts at 8:30am on the day listed for your child's school. Please be sure you are trying to register for the correct grade and school when signing up. If you sign up for a school/grade that does not apply to your child and you receive a space, you will not be transferred to the correct school/grade level unless a space is available. You will be refunded and added to the waitlist of the correct activity you wanted to sign up for.

COACHES NEEDED!

We are always looking for coaches who can help our participants learn more about the sports they are playing and can promote positive values! Coaches are essential to our program and we can never have enough. If you or someone you know is interested in coaching any sport (ages 16+), please contact MSA@cityofpaloalto.org for more information. In your e-mail, please express what sport you would like to coach and we will contact you. All coaches must pass a fingerprinting/background check before coaching.

If you have any other questions, e-mail MSA@cityofpaloalto.org and we will be happy to assist!
