Lightning Policy for Smith Softball Complex

 Lightning’s behavior is random and unpredictable.
Preparedness and quick response are the best defenses towards the lightning hazard.

If a lightning strike is seen or thunder is heard, all games will be suspended for a 30 minute time period.  During this time we ask all players and spectators to exit the fields and go to your cars.  If lightning or thunder occurs during the initial 30 minute waiting period, a new 30 minute time period will begin.  We may cancel games if conditions warrant.  We will resume games if no lightning is seen or thunder is heard during the 30 minute wait.  Game officials will announce over the intercom when games will resume. 

This policy will be enforced regardless of what radar is showing.  The Hastings Parks & Recreation Department’s number one priority is to protect the safety of the players, spectators, and staff at the Smith Softball Complex.
