Cookies with Mrs. Claus - Dec. 15th - Winter 2024

Join us December 15th for an afternoon of fun with Mrs. Claus!  Each participant will get to decorate (and eat!) cookies, drink hot cocoa, make a holiday craft, write a letter to Santa, and take photos with Mrs. Claus!

Parents do NOT need to register themselves if they are not planning to decorate their own cookies. Please no more than 2 accompanying adults per child registered.

There are three available time slots for this event: 1:00-2:30pm, 2:30-4:00pm, and 4:00-5:30pm.  Cost is $17 per participant (parent must remain on-site).  This event will take place at the Multipurpose Center (the library building) located at 202 Washington Ave. S. in Orting.

ADULTS - If you would like to decorate cookies, you will need to add yourself as a "child" to your account.  To do this, go to My Account, click Members, then click Add Child.  Enter your information then click Add.  You should then be able to register.

Holiday Movie Night - Winter 2024

Join us at 6:30pm on December 20th at the Multipurpose Center in the Orting Library for a family holiday movie night! We will be showing "The Polar Express".  Cost is $5 per person (under 3 are free) and includes popcorn and hot cocoa! Folding chairs will be provided but feel free to bring low-backed chairs, blankets and pillows! We will have some mats on the floor for children to sit on. THIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF EVENT - ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

Adult Kung Fu & Tai Chi Classes - Fall 2024

We are excited to introduce Kung Fu and Tai Chi classes this Fall!  

Kung Fu: All Levels - Classes on Traditional Chinese/Taiwanese martial arts, including Shaolinquan (Shaolin Boxing), the traditional soldier/bodyguard arts of Xingyiquan (Mind Intent Boxing) and Baguazhang (Eight Trigrams Palm), and the martial arts aspects of Taijiquan (Grand Ultimate Boxing), as taught within the Chen Pan-ling Family Lineage. These classes focus on the martial arts aspect of these styles, the application of movements for self-defense application, and their life-enhancing practice. Class days/times: Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm AND Saturdays 8:00-9:00am.

Tai Chi: All Levels - Classes on the traditional Chinese/Taiwanese art of Taijiquan (a.k.a. Tai Chi Chuan or simply Tai Chi) in its practice as a life-enhancing, health-improving, fitness and longevity practice. There is no age limit to Taijiquan practice; Taijiquan is good for young people and older people. The sooner you start, the more you'll get out of it! Class days/times: Wednesdays 7:15-8:15pm AND Saturdays 9:00-10:00am.

This registration is for the months of November and December.  Cost is $5 per participant per month. Classes are twice a week. Classes take place at the Multipurpose Center located in the Orting Library building at 202 Washington Ave. S, in Orting.

Playgroup, Ages 0-5 - Fall 2024

Join us every Monday from 10:30-11:30am for free-play and other activities for ages 0-5!  A variety of toys, crafts, and other activities will be set up each week.   PARENT MUST REMAIN ON SITE.  Advance registration is required and occurs on a monthly basis.  Cost is $5 per participant per month. Class takes place in the Multipurpose Room at the Orting Library, located at 202 Washington Ave. S. in Orting.

October classes: 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28

November classes: 11/4, 11/18, 11/25 - NO CLASS 11/11

Music Class, Ages 2-5 - Fall II 2024

Join us Thursdays for musical fun!  We have two class times this session: 9:30-10:00am and 10:30-11:00am. Kids will learn about music through singing, moving and exploring using finger play, nursery rhymes, music games, and instrument exploration. Parent must remain on site. This session is 7-weeks long with 6 classes.  First class begins November 7th, 2024. NO CLASS NOV. 28TH. Cost is $36 per child. Classes take place at the Multipurpose Center located at the Orting Library.

Wiggles & Giggles, Ages 3-5 - Fall II 2024

Join us Fridays from 11:15-12pm and tumble, dance and giggle your way through this fun movement class for preschoolers.  Participants will learn simple tumbling and dance techniques.  Parent participation required at first class.  This session has 6 classes. First class 10/25/24. NO CLASS 11/29/24. Cost is $48.

Beginner Line Dancing - Fridays - Fall 2024

Join us Fridays from 10:00-11:00am to learn line dancing!  Class takes place in the Orting Station building located at 101 Washington Ave. N (Next to Big J's Outdoor Store).  Cost is $5 per month.  Enrollment is open for September, October, & November!  This class is open to all ages (18+) and abilities! Cost is $5 per month.

Adult Line Dancing - Tuesdays - Fall II 2024

Line Dancing Class! - Join us Tuesday nights and learn how to line dance!  Line dances will range from beginner to intermediate level. All ages (18+) and fitness levels welcome! This is a great way to get moving and have fun! Class takes place at the Multipurpose Center (the library building) located at 202 Washington Ave. S. in Orting on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm.

The Fall 2 session will have 8 classes - first class starts October 22nd, 2024. Last Class 12/10/24.

Adult Dance Fitness - Fall II 2024

Dance Fitness - In this "jazzercise" style class, you'll move to the beat, burn calories, and have a blast!  Learn simple fitness routines to some of your favorite songs from across the decades! All ages (18+) and fitness levels welcome! This class takes place at the Multipurpose Center (the library building) located at 202 Washington Ave. S. in Orting. 

Class takes place on TUESDAYS  from 6:00-7:00pm.

The FALL 2 2024 session will have 8 classes

First class starts October 22nd, 2024. Last class 12/10/24.

Cost is $64

Adult Craft Class - Holiday Porch Leaner - Fall 2024

Join us Friday November 22nd from 6:30-8:30pm to make this beautiful holiday porch sign!  Finished project is approximately 10 inches wide by 4 feet tall.  All supplies and step-by-step instruction is included! Cost is $45 per person. A variety of paint colors, ribbon, and foliage choices will be available. Class takes place at the Multipurpose Center in the Orting Library located at 202 Washington Ave. S in Orting. 

Painting Class 11/17/24 - Fall 2024

Join us for a fun afternoon of painting on Sunday November 17th from 1:00-3:00pm or 3:00-5:00pm.  All supplies and step-by-step instruction by Rec Instructor Jane included! Painting will be a winter night scene (see photo).  Cost is $25 per person.

Event Vendor - Dec. 7th Home for Holidays Festival - Winter 2024

This enrollment is only for individuals and businesses that would like to be added as vendors for the City of Orting's Home for the Holidays Festival on December 7th, 2024.  This enrollment is NOT for Food truck vendors.  Please contact recreation@cityoforting.org or call (360) 893-9017 with questions. 

Event Details:

• December 7th, 2024, 1:00-6:00pm
• Orting Main City Park, 101 Train St. SW, Orting 98360
• Set-up begins at 11:00am on December 7th. Vendor placement will be at the discretion of the city.
• Orting business license NOT required.
• $20 Vendor Fee.
• Event takes place outdoors, rain or shine.
• Approved vendors will have (1) one 10-foot by 10-foot space reserved for their use for this event.  
• Please register multiple times if you would like more space.
• THE CITY DOES NOT LIMIT THE AMOUNT OR TYPE OF VENDORS FOR THIS EVENT.  If your organization does not allow duplicate representatives at events, please contact the city BEFORE you register.

Fall Youth Dance - Fall 2024

Recommended Dance Attire:

• All classes: Tights and leotards for girls, comfortable pants and t-shirt for boys
•  Ballet classes: Pink ballet shoes for girls, black ballet shoes for boys (leather bottoms, no dance slippers).
• Tap & Jazz classes: Black tap shoes and black jazz shoes.
• Please do not allow your child to wear any of their dance shoes outside and write their name in their shoes.
• No baggy/oversized or revealing clothing.
