Rental Timeframe:
You have the shelter reserved from 8am-11pm on your rental date.
Do I need to stay the whole time?
You are welcome to come and go during your reservation period. However, if you have items set up(tables, decor, supplies, etc), we recommend having an adult present at all times to prevent items from being blown away, damaged, or taken.
How many people can I have?
The max number of people is 50.
What if there is inclement weather?
If rain or severe weather is in the forecast, please contact the Parks and Rec Office to discuss options or rescheduling.
Can I use the shelter without a reservation?
Yes, our shelters are open to the public when not in use. However, to guarantee a spot for your event, we strongly recommend making a reservation. If you're using the shelter and a group with a reservation arrives, we kindly ask that you vacate the shelter promptly to honor their scheduled time.
What if I need to cancel my rental?
Per our policy cancellations must be made two weeks prior to your event for a full refund.

Is there electricity?
There is no electricity at this shelter.
Is there a water spigot?
Yes, there is a water spigot available at the shelter but please contact us in advance so we can ensure it's unlocked for your event.
Is there a restroom?
There are no restrooms at this shelter.
Do I need a fishing permit?
A state Fishing License is required. There is no City permit required to fish at the Helvey Lake.
Can I have inflatables, livestock or other additional things at my event?
If you plan to include any of the following at your event, you may be required to provide proof of insurance and/or obtain prior written approval from the Parks and Rec Department. Please notify PARKS@smithvillemo.org if any of the following will be used
- Bounce house/inflatables
- Petting zoo or live animals
- Food truck or catering truck
- Portable stage or platform
- Tent larger than 10x10
- Live music or DJ
- Generator or electrical hookup
- Carnival games or amusement ride
- Mechanical rides
- Outdoor Movie screen/projector
- Alcohol
- Drone use or arial photography
Note: Approval must be requested no less than 30 days before the event. Failure to disclose any of the above may result in cancellation of your reservation.
