Located just off Main Street, the Smithville Activity Center, (formally known as the Smithville Senior Center) is a welcoming and versatile venue for your next event. Whether you're planning a birthday party, baby shower, reunion, or business meeting, our indoor facility offers a comfortable and affordable space for your gathering up to 50 guests. The center includes a variety of amenities such as rectangular and round tables, chairs, a coffee maker, microwave, two ovens, refrigerator, ice maker, electricity access, and a 55-inch TV. This flexible space is designed to help make your event simple and stress free.

Refund & Cancellation Policy
Reservations are non-refundable unless canceled 30 days or more prior to the rental date. Please review full terms and conditions for details. Failure to comply with facility guidelines may result in forfeiture of your security deposit. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior will not receive a refund of rental fees. Only the security deposit may be eligible for return, per policy. Rescheduling is permitted up to two weeks before your reservation date.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I access the Senior Center?
There is no in-person key handoff. A lockbox is located on the left side of the entrance closest to the parking lot. You will receive your access code by email the week of your rental from our Recreation Coordinator. When your event is over, use your code and leave your key in the lockbox.

Can I leave and re-enter during my rental?
Yes. You may come and go as needed, but please ensure the building is locked when unattended.

When can I begin setting up?
Weekday rentals may access the facility from 3:30PM - 11:00PM. Weekend rentals may access the facility from 8:00AM - 11:00PM.

How do I ensure my deposit is refunded?
Please return the facility to its original condition. Cleaning supplies and a checklist are available by the supply closet near the women's restroom. Tables and chairs should be returned to their original setup (a reference layout is posted by the kitchen window).

Does my lockbox code expire?
Yes. All access codes expire at 11:30PM on the day of your rental.

What items can I use in the facility?
You are welcome to use the TV (HDMI cord available, TV remote is behind the screen), WIFI, ovens, refrigerator, ice maker, and microwave. Please do not use or remove any labeled items or contents in storage cabinets or refrigerators.

Can I set up the night before my event?
No. Early access requires an additional rental for the previous day.

When will I receive my deposit back?
The facility will be inspected the Monday following your rental. If everything is in good condition, your $200 deposit will be refunded. Card payments will be returned to the original card. Check payments will be refunded by check and may be mailed or pick up at City Hall upon request. 

Can I cancel the week of my event?
Cancellations must be made at least 30 days in advance for a full refund. Cancellations within 30 days are not eligible for a refund of rental fees.

Is alcohol allowed?
No. Alcohol is not permitted at the Smithville Senior Center.

What is the name of the facility? It looks different on maps/GPS.
As of May 2026, this facility has been renamed the Smithville Activity Center. It was formerly known as the Smithville Senior Center. It is the same location and building. If you are hosting an event here, please inform your guests of the name change, as GPS and mapping apps may still display the previous name.

Is parking available?
Yes. Free parking is available in the lot directly in front of the facility's front door. Side street parking on Main Street is also available. Please do not block entrances, fire lanes, or reserved spaces.

Is there Wi-Fi available?
Yes. Wi-Fi is available for renter use. Network name and password information will be posted inside the facility.

Do I need to clean before I leave?
Yes. All renters are responsible for basic cleanup, including wiping down surfaces, removing trash, sweeping floors as needed, and returning furniture to its original layout. Trash should be placed in the dumpster behind the building.

Are decorations allowed?
Yes, decorations are allowed. However, nothing may be attached using nails, screws, staples, or any adhesive that damages walls, ceilings, or fixtures. Painter's tape or removable adhesive is recommended.

Is there staff on-site during my rental?
No. The facility is self-guided during rental hours. Staff are not on-site but can be contacted during business hours if assistance is needed. If a maintenance emergency is occurring, please contact our park maintenance on-call number at 816.534.2143
