What rules and bylaws does VASA follow?

VASA is a proud member of the Texoma Youth Football League (TYFL) and follows their official bylaws and rules of play. This ensures consistency across all teams within the league and upholds the standards of safety and fair play.

For detailed information on the TYFL rules and regulations, you can view their full bylaws by clicking here.

What is the cost of admission to games?

Admission fees apply for spectators at games. These fees are set by TYFL and help support league operations, field rentals, referee fees, and other game-related costs. The exact pricing will be communicated closer to game days.

How is play time determined?

VASA does not have set playing time rules as part of the TYFL guidelines. Playing time will be determined by the coaches, who will consider effort, attendance at practices, and performance during games and practices. Coaches aim to ensure that every player has a positive experience, but playing time may vary depending on these factors.

Are uniforms provided by VASA as part of the registration cost? If so, what is included?

Yes, VASA provides uniforms as part of the registration cost. Each player will receive a full uniform, which typically includes:

 ● A team jersey with the player’s number & last name

 ● Football pants with integrated pads (knee, thigh, and hip pads)

● Socks

Additional items like mouth guards, shoulder pads, helmets, cleats, or gloves are not included, and players will need to provide these on their own. If you have any concerns or questions about specific uniform items, feel free to contact us.

Where will the games be played?

Games will be played at local fields and stadiums within the city or nearby areas. While we do not yet have the final list of teams in the league for the current season, specific game locations will be provided upon registration.  Locations in past years have been VA, Prosper, Celina, Sherman, Denison, Princeton, Melissa, Mckinney, etc.

When does the season start and end?

The season generally begins in late summer, with two-a-day practices starting in July. Games officially begin at the end of August and are held on Saturdays, running through October. If the team qualifies for playoffs, the season may extend into early November.

How often are practices and games?

Practices are typically held twice a week, and games are on Saturdays. The exact schedule will be provided in August once teams are set.

How long is a game of youth tackle football?

Youth football games generally last between 1 to 1.5 hours. Games consist of four 8-minute half time break in between, not including timeouts.

What equipment do players need to participate?

Players will need a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthguard, football pants for practice, and cleats.

What age group is youth tackle football for?

Youth tackle football is open to incoming 1st through 6th graders for the Fall 2025 season. Players will be grouped based on their grade level and age. If we do not have enough players for a specific grade, we may form combination teams. For example, we may have teams that combine 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, or 5th/6th grade players.

Can my child play up an age group?

Yes, if a parent allows it, their child can play up an age group. However, this decision should be made carefully, considering the child's ability, size, and maturity level. Please discuss this with the commissioner(s) during registration if you're interested in having your child play at a higher age group.

Who are the commissioners, and who should we contact if we have any questions?

● Head Commissioner: Chris Wilkerson – football@vasasports.com

 ● Co-Commissioner: Justin Johnson – justin.johnson@vasasports.com

How can parents help out with hosting games?

We greatly appreciate the involvement of our parents! For games that VASA hosts, we will need volunteers to help with admissions and concessions. These roles are essential to ensure smooth operations during the games. To help with this, parents will be asked to volunteer for a certain number of hours throughout the season. We understand that schedules can be tight, so we are offering two options:

1. Volunteer: Parents can sign up to help with admissions, concessions, or other game-day duties.

 2. Opt-Out: If volunteering isn’t feasible, parents can opt to pay an additional fee to cover the cost of hiring someone to handle these duties. The exact fee will be communicated after registration based on the number of home games VASA will host.

Why is volunteer help important?

Volunteers are an essential part of making each game day run smoothly. By helping out with admissions and concessions, parents not only support the team but also help keep costs down for all players and families. Your participation strengthens the VASA community and allows us to keep our focus on the kids and their development in the sport!

Can I opt-out of volunteering and pay instead?

Yes, if volunteering does not work for your schedule, we will offer an opt-out option for a fee, which will cover the cost of hiring someone to assist with admissions and concessions on game day. The fee will be determined based on the number of home games VASA is hosting.

What happens if I commit to volunteer and don’t follow through?

We understand that life can get busy, but volunteer commitments are crucial for ensuring the success of our events. If a parent commits to volunteer hours and is unable to follow through, we will review the situation on a case-by-case basis. To encourage accountability, we will establish a system to track volunteer hours, and failure to fulfill the commitment may result in a follow-up communication. Our goal is to make this a fair and positive experience for everyone involved.
