Lighting Rules

  1. Games in progress will be called “suspended” when lightning occurs as described in the following paragraphs. Players will immediately head to their cars.
    1. Flash-Bang method: If lightning detectors are not available, the flash bang method will be used. Count the seconds from the time the lightning (flash) is sighted to when the clap of thunder (bang) is heard. Games will be suspended if the count is 15 or less. .
    2. Using the criteria listed above, Grandview Athletics staff (Morgan, Sarah or Rec Aides) shall have the authority to suspend or call games. In the absences of any Grandview Athletics staff, The Umpire in Charge, if present or the most Veteran Umpire in Charge or the most Veteran Umpire are Involved in an on-going game, will appoint an adult to monitor the weather conditions using the above criteria, who will update if the conditions meet any of those criteria.

       

    When threatening weather occurs, the need to complete the games and the safety of all participants must come together. One 30 minute suspension shall be called. If during the suspension the situation worsens or becomes

  2. Code of Conduct: Will be signed and dated at the coaches/parents meeting. Umpires, Rec Aides or other Grandview Athletic Staff members may give out warnings when they feel parents, players, and/or spectators are being unruly. The first offence: person must remain quiet the remainder of the game and seated. Second offence: Person will be asked to leave Shalimar Park and must remain in their car until the game is over. They may not enter the facility until the next game/practice. Repeated offenses will result in suspension.

     

  3. Rosters: Each team will have a minimum of 6 players and a maximum of 12 players.

     

  4. Play: No minimum amount of players is required to play a game.
    1. We will NOT forfeit.

       

  5. Field Dimensions: 3&4: Bases will be 45 feet apart
    1. 5&6: Bases will be 50 feet apart.

       

  6. Uniform: GVPR will provide: jersey, hat and socks.
    1. Parent/guardian must provide cleats and baseball/softball pants.

       

  7. Time Limits: Games will have a time limit of 40 minutes (6-6:40 OR 6:40-7:20PM), or 3 innings, whichever comes first.
    1. If game time expires before the completion of 3 innings, the game will end after the current batter completes their at-bat.

       

  8. Field Assignments: The home team will occupy the third base side of the field.
    1. Visiting team will bat first.

       

  9. Standings/Score: Standings and score will not be kept.
    1. No outs are recorded.
    2. No jersey numbers are applied.

       

  10. Umpire/Official: GVPR will provide an umpire for every game, it will be a Recreation Aide. These Recreation Aide’s will also run the concession stand, set-up/tear-down the field and insure safety of all games.

     

  11. Coaches: An offensive coach is allowed at home plate to help the batter, place the ball on the tee, instruct.
    1. Base coaches are allowed at any base to help instruct.
    2. Defensive coaches are allowed on the field to instruct players.
    3. One coach MUST be present in the dugout when players are present.

       

  12. Players: Will not be allowed to wear jewelry, rings, watches, pins or other metal objects.

     

  13. Equipment: GVPR will provide bats and helmets.
    1. They must be worn/used when appropriate.
    2. Safety baseballs will be used.

       

  14. Defense: All players will play on the field when on defense.
    1. A maximum of seven infielders
    2. The rest must play in the outfield (must not enter the infield)
    3. Catcher position is not used
    4. No stealing or leading-off
    5. No outs recorded
    6. Players should be encouraged/instructed to play the field and make the proper play.
  15. Offense: Continuous batting will be used. Any player arriving late should be inserted into the batting order.
    1. No on-deck circle will be used, all players that are not batting must stay inside the dugout
    2. Ball must travel in fair territory, or it will be considered foul. If the tee is struck instead of the ball, it will also be a foul ball.
    3. If the batter doesn’t put the ball into play after three swings, they will advance to first base and all other runners will advance one base as well.
    4. If the defense makes a play and the runner/batter is out, the runner/batter will be allowed to remain on base.
    5. A ½ inning will be complete when all batters in the lineup have batted and have touched all of the bases. The last batter will run all bases until he/she touches home plate.
    6. Players may only slide into home plate, but any sliding is strongly discouraged
