Everything you need to know about coaching with After School Sports

Why Coach with After School Sports?

Our leagues and programs would not be successful without our dedicated coaches! Coaching youth sports provides a direct and lasting service to the community. As our current coaches can tell you, there is no better feeling than impacting a young person's life through the power of sports.

Who Can Coach?

We welcome all members of our community - parents, teachers, PE coaches, or any person with a passion for youth sports! Coaches have many reasons for getting involved - the experience of coaching their child, mentoring students, or simply to give back to our community.  Whatever your motivation may be, if you would like to help build a meaningful experience for the youth of Redwood City, we would love to have you!

How to Become a Coach

Redwood City After School Sports , in order to carry out our mission, requires that all coaches complete the following steps:

Step One

For teams based out of Adelante Selby, Roy Cloud, Henry Ford, Orion, Kennedy, McKinley, North Star, & Roosevelt, please contact Michael Smith at 650-780-7254 or msmith@redwoodcity.org.

Depending on the season, we have multiple coaching opportunities.  Contact us directly, and we will find the right fit for you based on our current program needs.

Step Two

Once completed, please email packet to msmith@redwoodcity.org or drop off packet at Red Morton Community Center (1120 Roosevelt Ave.)  Coaches over the age of 18 must also schedule and complete a fingerprint appointment with RCPD. This appointment is free of charge.

Coaches Packets:

Step Three

Attend all coaches meetings and complete additional trainings prior to the start of the season.

Prior to every season we will host/provide:

- In-person coaches meeting to discuss upcoming season (program structure/philosophy, rules, expectations, etc.)

- In-person, "hands-on" training to help you prepare for the season (how to run practices, prepare for games, manage expectations of players and parents, etc.)

- Online training with similar topics to the in person training. You will need to complete this training only once during your coaching tenure.

- Online concussion training. Per state mandate AB 25, all coaches must complete a concussion training prior to the season.
