Coaching with Kindness

At TRPR, we pride ourselves on fostering a positive and respectful environment for all athletes, coaches, and spectators. With that in mind, we want to address a concern that has recently come up: the use of timeouts in the final seconds of a game when a team is already winning by a significant margin. While timeouts are a strategic part of the game, calling them in the final moments when a game’s outcome is already decided—especially when winning by a landslide—can be seen as unsportsmanlike. It prolongs the game unnecessarily and can be frustrating for the opposing team. Good sportsmanship includes respecting both your own players and your opponents, and we ask all coaches to be mindful of this moving forward.

Different Learning Preferences

Every athlete learns differently, and as a coach, adapting your teaching methods can make a huge impact. Some players learn best by seeing, others by hearing, and some by doing. When explaining plays or techniques, try incorporating different approaches—draw out plays, verbally explain strategies, and physically walk through drills. By engaging multiple learning styles, you’ll help your athletes understand concepts more effectively, build confidence, and ultimately improve as a team. A little flexibility in your coaching can go a long way in player development!

Referee Expectations in the Final Weeks

As we enter the final weeks of the season, our referees have been instructed to be less lenient with calls and enforce all rules more strictly during gameplay. This shift is to ensure that athletes are playing by the official rules and to help them develop a better understanding of the game.
