Bat Weight
A guideline for determining the appropriate bat weight is by using the "drop" number of a bat. A bat’s drop is the negative number (e.g., -10) shown on the side of the barrel, usually near the end of the barrel.
Drop = ( Bat Weight in ounces ) - ( Bat Length in inches ) ; example = A bat weighing 18 oz. that is 28" long has a "drop 10" (18-28 = -10)
The more negative the drop number, the lighter a bat is relative to its length. Generally, the younger the player, the higher the drop…or more negative the drop number…will be.
When choosing a bat weight, it is better to err on the light side rather than the heavy side.
Bat Diameter
Starting January 1, 2018 all Minor, Major, and Intermediate divisions can use bats with barrel diameter up to 2⅝ inches.
