About us

Our Vision

The vision of the Poynette Parks & Recreation Commission is for the Village to have one of the best municipal parks and recreation programs in the Madison metropolitan region.

Our Mission

To realize our vision, the mission of the Poynette Park & Recreation Commission will be to:

  • raise public awareness of our assets and opportunities;  support recreation program leaders and volunteers;
  • improve park facilities;
  • expand recreation program offerings;
  • nurture partnerships throughout the Village, and;
  • achieve recognition for these efforts throughout the region.

Our Staff

Meet Shamus, our Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Engagement. Before joining Poynette, Shamus gained valuable experience in parks and recreation with several other cities. He has a passion for animals of all kinds, including the kangaroo he is holding in the photo above, and he enjoys spending time outdoors.

Shamus's office is located on the first floor of Village Hall, near the Main Street entrance. His office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and he is available by appointment on Fridays.

Parks and Open Space Plan

The Village adopts a Parks and Open Space Plan every 5 years that lays out short and longer-term priorities for the Village's park and trail system and individual parks.  The Village Board adopted the 2018-2022 Parks and Open Space Plan on March 26, 2018. The Parks Commission is working on the 2023-2027 parks and open spaces plan with the help of the village planner and the Recreation and Community Engagement Director.
