What type of fastpitch softball league is Tosa Fastpitch?

Tosa Fastpitch was established in 2008 to provide an opportunity for girls and young women in the Wauwatosa area to learn fastpitch softball in a fun, semi-competitive, team environment.  TFP is suitable for players of a wide range of ability levels.

What is the difference between Tosa Baseball, Tosa Fastpitch and Tosa Shock?

All these league names can be confusing!  You can think of Tosa Baseball and Tosa Fastpitch as being one in the same.

  • Tosa Fastpitch (TFP) is the softball side of the Tosa Baseball organization.
  • Tosa Baseball (TBL) is the primary organizer of the infrastructure that TFP is part of: website, fields, scheduling, etc.
  • Tosa Shock, on the other hand, is a separate "select" softball organization that is unrelated to either TBL or TFP.

How is Tosa Fastpitch different from Tosa Shock?

The landscape of youth sports has changed a lot in recent years.  "Select" or "travel ball" teams like Tosa Shock offer a highly-competitive softball opportunity for talented players that are also willing to commit to weekend tournaments around the region and a nearly full-year schedule.  TFP is geared towards kids that either don't quite fit onto a select team or families that choose not to commit to the schedule of a select program.

When is the season?

Practices start in the first or second week of May and the final games will be played in the middle to end of July for our youngest players and end of July for older players.

On what days of the week are games and practices?

Most practices and games will be during the week (Monday thru Thursday). Games may also be scheduled on Sundays later in the afternoon or early evenings, often “under the lights”. With limited fields available, there may not be a single set night for all practices or games. In case of rainouts, a few makeup games may need to be scheduled on Saturdays.

How many games are there during the season?

We schedule a 10-12 game regular season plus a scrimmage. We have playoffs for age groups in the Minors division or older.

How many nights per week are games and practices?

Between practices and games, your daughter will play about twice per week.

Where are games and practices played?

The league uses a number of city and county fields throughout the Wauwatosa area including Breitlow Fields, Longfellow, Underwood and Whitman Schools, and Cooper Park. Teams may travel to play games in neighboring communities.

Can my daughter play on a team with her friends?

Probably. We recognize that playing with friends can be very important to many fastpitch players so we allow friend requests during registration and try to honor those whenever possible.

How are age groups assigned?

We have four divisions organized by school grade (birthdays between September and August)
Juniors: 7 and 8 years old, 1st and 2nd grade (exiting in Spring)
Minors: 9 and 10 years old, 3rd and 4th grade
Majors: 11 and 12 years old, 5th and 6th grade
Seniors: 13, 14 and 15 years old, 7th, 8th and 9th grade

My 7-year old daughter has never played organized fastpitch softball before.  Is this a good league for her?

Absolutely. TFP is an instructional league. Our youngest players will learn the fundamentals of fastpitch softball in a positive, fun environment.

My daughter would play in one of the older divisions but has never played organized fastpitch softball before. Is this a good league for her?

Yes! It’s never too late to join our league.

Can a girl play TFP while also playing other sports?  Or even for another softball team?

Yes.  Since the TFP schedule is limited to about 2 days per week, it is quite possible for girls to participate in other sports during the season.  For players that might also be on another fastpitch team, we think TFP can offer complementary opportunities and development opportunities.

What equipment does my daughter need?

Players will be responsible to have their own glove and helmet. All helmets must have a face mask. Cleats are highly recommended, but it’s ok to re-purpose those soccer shoes. The league provides uniforms, face-masks, bats and catchers gear.

Can I volunteer to help the league?

We are a league run by volunteers. We need coaches, assistant coaches, team managers and various smaller volunteer roles throughout the season. These are all great ways to stay involved with your own daughter and participate in a rewarding league experience. Volunteering more than 5 hours in the season will earn you the volunteer fee back, as well!

I’m considering volunteering to coach but I’ve never done it before. Can I be a coach?

Definitely! The coaches all work together to help the league grow and succeed. Head coaches, assistants and parents all cooperate. We can also provide coaching advice and practice plans to help you coach a team.
