Young people play football because it's fun, challenging, and exciting. Everyone loves being part of a team. Football teaches cooperation and team work, helps develop terrific social skills, and teaches respect for others. It helps build self-confidence, a positive self-image, and self worth. It enables a child to improve upon and develop a broad range of motor skills like throwing, catching, running, kicking, balance, agility, and coordination.
The Junior Riverhawks program emphasizes character in its players and strives to provide the proper environment so your child will have a positive and rewarding experience.
Practices will be tentatively three to four nights per week, depending on the team. Practice days and times are solely at the coach's discretion and will be announced prior to August 1st. The location will be dictated by the Junior Riverhawks President and all teams MUST practice at the same location (insurance reasons).
All games will be played on Saturdays unless specifically stated otherwise. The times will be dictated by the CBYF. Locations are still being determined. Please note that team may play one to two out of town games. Sample locations are: Walla Walla, Connell, Sunnyside, Prosser, etc.
JRH provides the necessary equipment needed to participate. Additional equipment needed is: mouth guard, cleats, water bottle. For more information, please check out our equipment information, HERE.
As a developmental program for Chiawana High School, we are dedicated to the development of football skills in our student athletes. All students residing within our boundary - even those that are homeschooled or attend a private school - are invited to join the Junior Riverhawks!
We are a proud member of the Columbia Basin Youth Football League, one of the largest leagues in the Pacific Northwest. The league was established many, many years ago to equip players with the skills, physical conditioning, and mental attitude necessary for the pursuance of the game at the high school level.
The Junior Riverhawks are highly committed to player safety. Our coaches are properly trained and certified by USA Football to provide the best developmental experience for our players, while reducing the risk of injuries. We teach Heads Up Football, the new standard for football leagues that is focused on four key areas: coach education, safe tackling, concussion awareness, proper equipment fitting.
This teaching model provides our coaches with the right materials and teaching techniques for different age groups.
All coaches, assistant coaches, and any volunteers in direct contact with players have completed a criminal background check and child abuse clearances.
Football is considered one of the most rewarding, yet demanding of all little league sports. Therefore, it requires a strong commitment to the program. The success of the program is driven by the level of support delivered by our coaches, players, parents, volunteers, and community.
