Cheerleading

Get Fired Up!

Lead the crowd with your Junior Riverhawks spirit!  Join the JRH Cheerleading Squad and fall in love with this fun, popular sport.  Our squads build self-confidence, teach sportsmanship, and create lasting friendships among cheerleaders.  Our cheer leaders learn cheers, chants, jumps, dances and some stunting and will perform them all during football games, special events, and an optional end-of-season cheerleading showcase!

Our Program

  • To ensure a safe and positive environment, each cheerleader is placed in a division or squad based group.  We do not "cut" participants from the squad.
  • Fall Cheerleading is open to boys and girls, ages 5 - 14
  • Open to all students residing within the Chiawana High School boundary map.  Public, private, and homeschooled students, are encouraged to register for the Junior Riverhawks Cheer Squad.

The Season

  • The cheer season is in the fall, only.
  • Registration opens on/around May.
  • Cheer practices may start the week of August 1st
  • Practices will be held three to four times per week, at the discretion of the coach.  Days and times will be announced prior to the season officially starting
  • Kids will learn general cheer & tumbling routines
  • Cheer team will cheer at one or more (not more than two) tackle games per Saturday
  • Please note:  the cheer squad will cheer at games determined by the coaching staff.  These are called "Games of the Week".  If you have a cheerleader with a sibling who plays football, there may be some overlap.  It is not guaranteed that your cheerleader will always cheer for her brother/sister each Saturday.

Equipment

  • Weather appropriate clothes:  shorts/pants, tshirt, sweatshirt (if needed)
  • Tennis shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Registration covers one uniform, poms, and one bow.  Any outfits (shirts, pants, etc.) outside of the Junior Riverhawks supplied uniform will be an additional cost.

Commitment

Cheerleading requires a strong commitment to the program.  Squads need every member present on a regular basis to perform their cheers, dances and especially stunts!  The success of the program is driven by the level of support provided by our coaches, players, parents, volunteers, and the community.

Coaching

We are seeking energetic, motivated cheerleading coaches and assistant coaches who enjoy working with youth between the ages of 5 to 14.  Enthusiasm, time dedication, character, and a positive attitude are a must!  Prior cheerleading or dance experience is a bonus, but not required.  If you would like to volunteer your time and knowledge as a youth cheerleading coach or assistant coach, please let us know!
