Adult Pond Hockey League Information & Rules


Season Information: 

Winter:

  • Registration Opens Here on MM/DD at 7am
  • Team Registration Fee: $290
  • 6 weeks scheduled, 5 guaranteed
  • Winter League Dates:

    • Game Start Times: 6, 7, 8, and 9pm

    Adult Pond Hockey Information:  

    We offer leagues in the following levels

    • Recreational Majority of players are newer to hockey or have not played at a competitive level; players with higher experienced focused on social play
    • Competitive: Majority of players have high school level or higher experience

    We offer leagues in the following formats

    • Co-Ed: Teams must have at least one female player on at any given time, with a maximum of two male players at any given time
    • Open: No restrictions on gender representation in lineup

    Game Time & Scheduling

    • Game dates and times will be posted on the league schedule at least one week before the league's scheduled start date.
    • Postponements: All games will be played as scheduled
      • Postponements will be considered because of excessive snowfall or extremely poor ice
      • Postponed games may be made up on weekends

    Uniforms:

    • Teams must have some form of distinguishing marking such as jerseys, jackets, pinnies, etc.
    • Teams must have a dark and a light option (we recommend having a dark/light alternate pinnie) in case of having the same color as opponents

    Rules of Play

    • The winner of the captain's coin toss will determine which goal to defend
    • Teams will switch sides at half (unless otherwise agreed upon by both teams and the official)
    • No goalie equipment or goalie sticks alllowed
    • All teams must have matching dark and light jerseys
    • There will be one ice official to monitor play (scoring, time, puck resent, and infractions)
    • Penalties will be called for infractions
      • Penalties called by the official are final
      • A minor penalty will result in a goal and possession of the puck
      • A major penalty includes any action that could possibly injure another player
      • A major penalty will result in ejection from the game and and the offending team playing the remainder of the game shorthanded (3-4)
      • The league director will follow-up on major penalties to determine if suspension is necessary
      • Abuse of officials counts as a major penalty (this includes yelling, swearing, and/or excessive arguing over calls)
    • No checking: checking can be called as either a minor or major penalty depending on the official's judgement
    • No slap-shots: slap-shots will result in a minor penalty
    • Players cannot fall or lay on the ice in an effort to protect the goal area
      • This will result in minor penalty
    • Goaltending is not allowed
      • A player may not patrol or "camp out" or remain stationary in the crease to act as a goaltender
      • A defender may deflect the puck in the crease area but must do so while continuing to move through the crease area
      • The crease is defined as an imaginary box extending four feet out from the outside corners of the goal
    • Contacting the puck with the stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession
    • Raising the puck above the waist will result in a loss of possession
    • After an out of bounds puck, the defender must give their opponent at least 2-stick lengths of space
    • There is no offsides or icing
    • Goals must be scored from the attacking side of center ice
    • Referees will call out the score after each goal
    • Teams must give their opponents at least 1/2 of the ice after a goal is scored or an infraction takes place
    • Games will be comprised of two 25 minute halves and a five minute halftime
    • All games are running-time
    • Substitutions can be made on the fly or while the puck is being retrieved
    • There is no time stoppage after a goal is scored or a penalty is issued
