Lufkin Parks and Recreation is seeking energetic individuals looking for an opportunity to work in a fast-paced and fun environment! Come join our Team as a Youth Basketball Referee to help us grow our organization.
Lufkin Parks and Recreation is hosting a mandatory referee clinic on Saturday, December 21st from 10am to 12pm. Referees will learn the fundamentals of refereeing, game management, and crowd engagement.
Please wear athletic clothing and gym appropriate shoes. We will provide a Fox 40 whistle.

Who can apply?
- Anyone over the age of 16 years old.
- Basketball knowledge
- Must attend the Basketball Referee Clinic.
Where are the games?
- Lufkin Parks and Recreation (516 Montrose St.)
- Lufkin Middle School – Panther Gym (900 E Denman Ave.)
When are the games?
- Saturdays and work when available.
- Opening Day is Saturday, January 4th.
What time are the games?
- Games start at 8 am – 6 pm.
How much are referees paid?
- 30 dollars a game
How do referees get paid?
- Referees are paid bi-weekly by check without tax deductions. Checks must be picked up at Lufkin Parks and Recreation. (516 Montrose St.)
What documentation is needed?
- W-9 has to be submitted before the start of the season.
- Background checks must be completed before the start of the season.
- Liability Waiver
- Code of Conduct Agreement
What equipment is needed?
- Referee shirt - Provided
- Whistle (Fox 40) - Provided
- Black pants
- Gym appropriate shoes
Which rules do we use?
- NFHS Rules with modifications for Lufkin Parks and Recreation.
What are the expectations?
- Follow dress code (Tucked in referee shirt, Black pants, and Fox 40 Whistle)
- Arrive on time (15 Minutes before game time)
- Follow the code of conduct
Are meals provided?
- Referees will receive 1 meal per day (Food item and drink)
- Complimentary water while working
